Chris Lighty: There Is No Such Thing As A Sellout!

Hip-Hop impresario and manager to some of hip-hop's biggest stars such as
LL Cool J, 50 Cent, Soulja Boy, Busta Rhymes and many others,
Chris Lighty sits down with
NYOIL to discuss brand endorsement and why,
'there is no such thing as a sell out".[/p]"I think the disconnect that comes into play today is people do not accept that hip-hop became a business. Once it became and shifted to a multi-billion dollar business, It wasn't that the culture changed, it was the way we were handled within the culture that changed. Now we had to be more business-like, now we had to think more strategic. We always was thinking outside the box, but we had to think outside the box within a corporate society. We can not be renegade all day, every day being a renegade will have kept us as a nice niche business such as Jazz Music".[/p]In this day of branding extension that reflects back to the mighty dollar they are not thinking: "how do I generate interest and money and get my message across without being deemed a sellout? "
There is no such thing as a sellout. [/p]
